This month’s jazz event at The Millhouse Restaurant & Bar At Skidby will be held on Thursday, 28th January. We’re delighted that the Rob Law Duo has accepted our invitation to play at this month’s event. Rob will be featuring on piano with Richard Hammond on bass. In deciding to take up a charity challenge laid down by the KCFM Smile Foundation, Marco, Restaurateur and Chef at The Millhouse Restaurant & Bar at Skidby, has been in training for all eventualities.  Going head to head with Ed Bretten, the KCFM 99.8 Breakfast presenter, is a daunting task not due to Ed’s fitness but due to the fact that the challenges presented to both Mark and Ed will be decided by the listeners of KCFM.

To date the challenges are a closely guarded secret however we can announce the names of the challenges which will take part over a period of five days concluding with a Head to Ed Devil’s Kitchen cook of on the 16th March held at The Millhouse Restaurant & Bar at Skidby.

Listeners of the KCFM breakfast show will have to choose between two challenges for each day and these will include:

Day One: High Fitness or Fitness Fan-attic
Day Two: Sink or Swim
Day Three: Feel the Air or Feel Despair
Day Four: Ride or Stride

Keep listening to KCFM 99.8 to hear the challenges announced on air. Listeners will then get the chance to text in and vote for the challenge they would like Marco and Ed to compete in. Each text will also be entered into a draw to win some fantastic prizes.

Life and Fork is a local company that is now working in partnership with The Millhouse Bar and Restaurant at Skidby. It started in the kitchen of its founder Juliet, a local nutritional therapist, when her clients were failing to keep up their good intentions because time got in the way of maintaining a healthy, nutritious diet.

Frustrated that clients were seeing vast improvements only in the short term because maintaining an optimum diet was taking up too much time, she began to create the meals these clients should be eating and delivering them to their door so they could not fail to benefit.

As demand grew for the service, Juliet and Marco got together and discussed the possibility of using the expertise of the Millhouse kitchens to prepare the nutritionally balanced meals on a larger scale. And what started out as food for thought, has now become a reality.

To showcase the food and the different packages available, The Millhouse are holding tasting events where you can come along to try the food, find out more about it and give us your feedback and comments.

Its a completely informal event, the bar will be open and you can come and go as you please. We are holding the event over three sessions:

Wednesday, 3rd February between 1pm and 3pm
Wednesday, 10th February between 5pm and 9pm
Wednesday, 17th February between 5pm and 9pm

The Millhouse Restaurant & Bar At Skidby will be holding a special event for ladies only on Wednesday, 11 August 2010. The event will begin with a Champagne Breakfast at The Millhouse, after which our guests will be transported to Beverley Racecourse to enjoy Ladies’ Race Day. At 6.00pm, we will return to The Millhouse for cocktails and a fashion show followed by a gala buffet and evening of live entertainment and dancing. I’m delighted to announce that The Millhouse will be taking part in a major charity challenge event in aid of the KCFM Smile Foundation.

The KCFM Smile Foundation supports parents caring for children with Down Syndrome and women coping with the devastating effects of post natal depression.

I have volunteered for a series of challenges with KCFM Breakfast Presenter, Ed Bretten, to raise funds for the Charity and increase awareness about their amazing work in Hull and East Yorkshire. Starting in January, KCFM listeners will be invited to choose the challenges Ed and I will undertake which will be completed over one week in March. The series of challenges will culminate in a cook-off between Ed and myself in The Millhouse Kitchen.

The challenges will test me both physically and mentally, but I also expect them to be a lot of fun. However, my purpose in volunteering for the event is to really make a difference here in Hull & East Yorkshire. I want to raise as much as I can and hope that people will support me by donating.

New dishes on our A La Carte Menu include ‘Scottish Salmon and East Coast Crab Spring Rolls, Oriental Noodles and Pak Choi’ and ‘Toulouse Sausage on Mustard Mash with Red Onion Gravy and Celeriac Choucroute’. To complement our delicious range of dishes, we have also compiled a wine list from a variety of small, independent family estates and domains throughout the world.

Our new Set Menu (2 courses for £16.95 or 3 courses for £22.95 including a 125ml glass of wine) offers a choice of 5 starters including ‘Prawn and Pesto Risotto’, 5 main courses including ‘Char Grilled Sirloin Steak, Cajun Spiced Mushrooms and Wedges’, and 4 puddings including ‘Marbled Dark and White Belgian Chocolate, served with a Compote of Peppered Strawberries’.
